CBAM and the global picture

There have been further discussions on how the EU and the UK could work in the future and on the agrifood trade facilitation and the ETS linkage. Both areas have ETS and are thinking on how to have a CBAM fully operational (in 2027 for the UK) and they are looking for ways to bring the two system closer to each other.  On 13 November, the Council authorised the EC to open negotiations with the UK on 2 new agreements: the establishment of a common sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) area and the linking of the EU and UK emissions trading systems.
